On Friday, May 11, my solo show entitled “Messy Bedrooms: Windows of Time” will open in Naples in a marvellous former Borbonic tunnel space, Sabinalbano Modart Gallery in Vico Vasto a Chiaja, 52 at 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served, along with a live jazz duo beginning at 9:00 pm. The show remains up until June 4, with daily hours of 10:00-13:30 and 16:30-20:00 from Tuesday-Saturday, Mondays from 16:30-20:00 and closed on Sundays. I was very pleased to have been asked to display these works in particular, as the motif – the messy bedroom – is obviously one close to my heart. While talking with the curator and gallerist, we discussed how these rooms are also “portraits” rather than mere interiors, how the absence of the person and the backdrop that remains is perhaps more revealing; we then agreed that the three self-portraits complimented the messy bedroom group and should be included.
For the exhibition, we have selected about thirty works from the past five years, including bedroom glimpses from Florence, Siena, & Naples, Italy and Rehovot and Jerusalem, Israel. I have been hard at work completing some new large paintings for the exhibition, and I have included a couple of photographs of those works in their early stages here in the images below (though they will be finished for the show).
